Tr岷 Nguy峄卬 Nam H瓢ng, an outstanding Mathematics graduate from VNUHCM-University of Science with a GPA of 9.49/10 and multiple national and international accolades, aspires to pursue postgraduate studies abroad and return to teach at his alma mater.
With an exceptional Grade Point Average of 9.49 out of 10, Tr岷 Nguy峄卬 Nam H瓢ng stands among the most outstanding graduates of the 2025 cohort at VNUHCM-University of Science, completing the Bachelor鈥檚 programme in Mathematics with Distinction. Behind this remarkable academic record lies a steadfast four-year journey shaped by intellectual rigour, enduring passion, and quiet determination鈥攈allmarks of a young scholar devoted to a discipline often considered austere by the uninitiated.
Throughout his undergraduate studies, Nam H瓢ng distinguished himself through a series of national and international academic competitions. He was awarded the Silver Medal at the 2022 National Mathematics Olympiad and secured Second Prize in Algebra at the 2023 National University Mathematics Olympiad. Demonstrating both breadth and depth in applied mathematics, he achieved outstanding results at the SCUDEM (SIMIODE Challenge Using Differential Equations Modelling) in 2024 and 2025, and most recently earned a Bronze Medal at the 2025 AKHIMO International Mathematics Olympiad.
Reflecting on his academic journey, Nam H瓢ng described his time at HCMUS as formative and transformative鈥攎arked by moments of challenge and discovery in equal measure. Despite fluctuations in direction and self-doubt, one constant remained: his enduring commitment to Mathematics.
鈥淓ven when faced with numerous alternatives, I remained deeply drawn to Mathematics. I believe that studying this discipline can open a multitude of pathways鈥攚hether in theoretical research or practical application,鈥 he remarked.
A Passion Nurtured in a Supportive Academic Environment

To Nam H瓢ng, the undergraduate years were more than an academic pursuit鈥攖hey represented a period of personal growth and exploration. From lectures held at the VNU-HCM urban campus to intensive academic seminars, from the struggle of navigating unfamiliar subjects to the exhilaration of success at international competitions, every experience contributed to shaping the character of a scholar who now stands poised for the next stage of his academic life.
鈥淎t one point, I did consider other disciplines. However, upon deeper reflection, I recognised that my affection for Mathematics remained profound鈥攁nd I wished to continue uncovering its depths,鈥 he recalled.
For him, Mathematics extends far beyond formulae and theorems. It encompasses the historical evolution of thought, the intellectual context of discoveries, and the elegant architecture of logic that underpins human progress. This perspective, he believes, allows one to grasp not only abstract knowledge but also the enduring contributions of humanity鈥檚 collective reasoning.
Fuelled by this philosophy, Nam H瓢ng has actively pursued research alongside coursework. In his third year, his team attained top recognition at SCUDEM with a mathematical model applied to biology鈥攁n achievement that broadened his understanding of interdisciplinary applications and affirmed his commitment to applied research.
What he treasures most, however, is the academic atmosphere cultivated at HCMUS鈥攁 learning environment where intellectual curiosity is encouraged and student growth is nurtured with care.
鈥淭he academic staff at HCMUS are not only experts in their fields but also deeply invested in student development. I was given the opportunity to enrol in advanced modules ahead of schedule, and received strong mentorship and recommendation letters for external engagements. In fact, there were strengths in me that my lecturers identified before I myself could articulate them,鈥 he reflected.
From the Lecture Hall to the Aspiration of Professorship

Alongside his formal studies, Nam H瓢ng has also engaged in a wide range of extracurricular and scholarly activities, including participation in student organisations, academic clubs, and small research collectives. Over time, he learnt to balance competing priorities and optimise his schedule鈥攍ess as a time-saving technique, and more as an intentional strategy to align daily decisions with long-term academic goals.
His ambition is clear: to pursue postgraduate study abroad, then return to serve the very institution that shaped his early academic formation.
鈥淔ollowing graduation, I plan to pursue a Master鈥檚 degree in Mathematics in Germany, beginning in October 2025. Should circumstances permit, I hope to continue towards a doctorate and ultimately return to HCMUS as a lecturer.鈥
For Nam H瓢ng, teaching at his alma mater would represent the most meaningful way to contribute鈥攂y giving back to the academic community that first recognised and nurtured his potential. He remains committed not only to updating his knowledge but also to inspiring and guiding future generations of students.
Studying Mathematics, in his view, is not solely about developing logical thinking; it is equally about cultivating a habit of holistic analysis and resisting superficial interpretations. Such habits, he asserts, are indispensable in the contemporary digital age.
鈥淩ather than reacting impulsively to sensationalist content on social media, I strive to understand the broader context and examine root causes. This manner of thinking has helped me remain independent and discerning,鈥 he explained.
When asked what message he would send to his younger self鈥攆our years ago, just beginning university鈥擧瓢ng replied:
鈥淪tay devoted to your passion, and never give up. The best is yet to come.鈥
It is a message he hopes will also resonate with incoming students鈥攖hose now embarking on a path that, while demanding, promises great personal and intellectual reward.
