VIETNAM-FRANCE MASTER OF APPLIED MATHEMATICS PROGRAMME: A NURTURE PLACE FOR 160 DOCTORS

On January 23rd, at the聽VNUHCM Headquarters, an online meeting was held to summarise the Vietnam-France Master’s Programme in Applied Mathematics. The chancellor of VNUHCM, Assoc. Prof. V农 H岷 Qu芒n, presided over the meeting.

Since 2007, the programme has resulted in 277 masters in applied mathematics. Out of them, 160 graduates received scholarships and finished doctoral programmes at prestigious universities across Europe, America, and Asia. VNUHCM will continue to extend the programme for the period 2024鈥2028, and student enrolment will begin this year.

The programme has produced several notable alumni, including esteemed professionals such as Professor Phan Th脿nh Nam from the Institute of Mathematics at LMU (University of Munich). Professor Nam is the first Vietnamese to be bestowed with the聽European Mathematical Society聽Award in 2020, a prestigious accolade that attests to his exceptional abilities. Another distinguished alumnus is Associate Professor Nguy峄卬 Thanh B矛nh from the VNUHCM-University of Science, who was recently awarded the 2021 Golden Globe Award, marking an outstanding achievement in his field. Additionally, Professor H峄 Ph岷 Minh Nh岷璽 is a highly regarded expert in data science, statistics, and machine learning and an Assistant Professor at the聽University of Texas at Austin. The success of these alumni is a testament to the excellence of the programme and the calibre of its graduates.

Initially introduced in 2007 under the name 鈥淐oordinated Training Programme for Master of Applied Mathematics between VNUHCM and the University of Orleans and some training institutions in the French Republic,鈥 the programme has since evolved. From 2011 to 2023, the VNUHCM approved this programme and changed its name to 鈥淛oint Training Programme for Master’s Degree in Applied Mathematics between the VNUHCM-University of Science and four higher education institutions of the French Republic.鈥 During this period, VNUHCM has supported the programme with a total budget of 13,458,000,000 VND.
